           LINFIT

Linfit is a collection Windows programs for data analysis, curve fitting, and graphing.   I am using this web page to make it available for downloading.  There are currently two versions available.  Click on the link shown below to try it.  You should be prompted to save it as a file on your hard disk.

Save the file in some temporary directory, and then, in Windows Explorer, double-click on it to install the program.  Let me know if you have any trouble getting the program or installing it.  The installation program has NOT been tested on Windows Vista, but should work.

Fall 2009:  I have just completed a new version.  It has a new spreadsheet module that is consistent with the latest Excel formats.  To install it, download and double-click on the .msi file.  The new version has not yet been extensively tested, and is likely to be updated frequently.  In addition, for the time being, it will not work unless you have also installed the old version.  I should have a complete installation file available shortly, I hope within the next month or so.  This version requires Ghostscript/GSView (see below) to print graphs.

In order to print Linfit's Postscript graphs to non-Postscript printers, you will need a copy of Ghostscript/ GSView, which is freely available from the University of Wisconsin Computer Science Department site.  At CSB/SJU, most networked laser printers support Postscript.  However, most inkjet printers and personal laser printers do not.   Linfit should be able to find Ghostscript and GSView if it is installed on your hard disk in the default location.  If all else fails, save the Postscript file and open it in GSView or any other Postscript viewer.  GSView is a handy viewer for Postscript files of all sorts.
