Appendix: mRNA Codons for Amino Acids

Example: mRNA sequence UUU codes for the incorporation of a phenylalanine into a protein; so does UUC.

Some codons, such as UAA, announce the the protein sequence is finished.

Another codon, AUG, codes for methionine but also announces the start of a new protein sequence.  Thus, methionine is always found at the N-terminus of newly assembled proteins, although it can be removed after translation.
