The ADP and inorganic phosphate are the
reaction products of ATP hydrolysis. The charge density on ATP is larger than its hydrolysis product,
ADP, and theoretical studies show that ATP is
less solvated than
ADP. Both of these factors make ADP
more stable in solution than ATP.
