Herzfeld is the author of In Our Image:  Artificial Intelligence and the Human Spirit (Fortress, 2002) in which she explores the question of what it means to create in one's image, comparing traditional theological understandings of humans as created in the image of God with approaches that humans have taken to creating in their own image in the field of artificial intelligence.   She is also the author of numerous articles on diverse topics, including the appropriateness of cyberspace as a venue for spiritual experience, the question of embodiment as a sine qua non for personhood, the ethical implications of computer games, and the prospects for reconciliation among Christians and Muslims in Bosnia.
