UWC Audiographics Course

UWC Audiographics Course Evaluation

Dear Student- As you are well aware, the distance education format of this course differs in many respects from the traditional face-to-face format of traditional courses. We are interested in assessing how well this course met your needs in various ways, and how the format of the course affected the extent to which it met your needs.
At the beginning of the semester, you were asked to fill out a survey concerning your attitudes towards computer-aided instruction (CAI) and distance education courses. We would now like to get a sense of how you feel now that the course is over. An integral part of our analysis of the UWC distance education program will come from your experiences.
We have identified a series of factors that we think are important contributors to the success of any college course. For each factor, we would like you to answer three separate questions. The first question will ask you to evaluate the course you are taking on an absolute basis-- in other words, thinking about this course by itself. The second question will ask you to compare this course to other, more "traditional" courses-- e.g.- ones that meet "face-to-face" during the semester. Finally, we would like you to rate how important this factor is to you. All of these questions are important in assessing how well the UWC distance ed courses are working, especially given the differences between them and more traditional courses. Following each set of questions, we have left space for you to make comments specifically about the topic.
We have divided the survey into three sections. What we are interested in finding out in the first section is your level of satisfaction with the coverage of material. Did you get a broad enough perspective of the subject? How satisfied were you with the overall amount of material covered in the course? The second section deals with issues of teaching and course structure. The third section asks questions of a more global nature about the course and your performance in it. Of particular importance to us as we look at the UWC distance courses are the three open-ended questions at the end of the survey. These will take the most time, but will help us the most.
This information will be kept confidential (I will see it, but will not pass along any individual's responses to professors. They will see a summary of responses).
If you have any questions, please feel free to call or E-mail me. Thank you for your assistance.

Section A: Coverage of content.

The first three questions concern how adequately the course covered the subject matter. The first question concerns the breadth of coverage in the course. In other words, how wide of a perspective on the topic did you get from taking this course? The second question looks at content from the perspective of depth of coverage-- i.e., how complexly were topics analyzed? The third question asks you to give an overall assessment of the amount of material covered.

The following open-ended questions are probably the most important part of this evaluation. Please take a few minutes to reflect on your experiences, then respond to the following questions:

  13. What did you like most, or what was most beneficial, about taking this course in a distance education format?

  14. What did you like least about taking this course in a distance education format? (Another way of thinking about this would be, "What did you miss most that you would have had if this course were taught in a "traditional" format?)

  15. Is there anything else you think would be helpful to us to know in improving the distance education courses in the UWC system? Thank you for your cooperation!
