Weekend College Evaluation

Dear Student- As you know, the course in which you are currently enrolled is part of a pilot study for the proposed Weekend College program. Since Weekend College courses differ from more traditional courses in a number of ways, we would like to find out how well the format is currently working, and how it could be improved. An integral part of our analysis will come from your experiences. We would like to assess the degree to which you feel you have profited from this program.

We have identified a series of factors that we think are important contributors to the success of any college course. For each factor, we would like you to answer three separate questions. The first question will ask you to evaluate the course you are taking on an absolute basis-- in other words, thinking about this course by itself. The second question will ask you to compare this course to other, more "traditional" courses-- e.g.- ones that meet more regularly during the semester. Finally, we would like you to rate how important this factor is to you. All of these questions are important in assessing how well the Weekend College courses are working, especially given the differences between them and more traditional courses. Following each set of questions, we have left space for you to make comments specifically about the topic.

We have divided the survey into three sections. What we are interested in finding out in the first section is your level of satisfaction with the coverage of material. Did you get a broad enough perspective of the subject? How satisfied were you with the overall amount of material covered in the course? The second section deals with issues of teaching and course structure. Finally, the third section asks questions of a more global nature about the course and your performance in it.

Section A: Coverage of content.

The first three questions concern how adequately the course covered the subject matter. The first question concerns the breadth of coverage in the course. In other words, how wide of a perspective on the topic did you get from taking this course? The second question looks at content from the perspective of depth of coverage-- i.e., how complexly were topics analyzed? The third question asks you to give an overall assessment of the amount of material covered.

13.We would like you to estimate how you interacted with the material in the course during the two weeks between classes. Think back over the semester and try to reconstruct a "typical" two week period. On the scale below, please circle days when you did something related to the course, such as read the text, talk to other class members or the professor, or just spent a concentrated time thinking about the subject. Please list the activity, and about how much time you spent engaged in the activity.
