Honors Symposium: "The Quest for Social Justice"
Dennis Beach, OSB
Social Justice Events: Report Expectations and Calendar
Basic Assignment
Attend 2 events in the semester that have something to do with our theme, "The
Quest for Social Justice." You can use your own judgment in choosing events, whether
they be talks, workshops, plays or films, actions by campus groups, etc. The idea is to
expose ourselves to a variety of issues as well as the variety of approaches to those
issues that are represented on the campuses. (If you do a 3rd event, I will give
extra credit).
Requirements (besides attending the event):
Prepare to give a short, informal report on the event in class the next day. This need
not be elaborate but should include some basic information on the topic and how it
was prsented, as well as what you found most beneficial or interesting in the event.
If several people attend an event, the in-class report can be shared, or even take the
shape of a discussion. It might be best to let classmates know if you are planning to
attend an event, so we can coordinate.
Turn in a short written report summarizing the same things in #1, with emphasis on the
last part, what you found most beneficial.
Calendar
This is incomplete. Check Campus Bulletin Board regularly
for announcements that may contain new possibilties.
