CHEM 125 Placement Exam Instructions

All students in majors or pre-professional programs that require enrollment in CHEM 125 General Chemistry must take the online CHEM 125 Placement Exam. The placement exam, used to measure mathematical preparedness, will help determine enrollment in the CHEM125 companion course, CHEM 121 Skills in Problem Solving.

For most new students, username and password are FIRSTNAME.MIDDLEINITIAL.LASTNAME. Example Username: JULIE.T.SMITH

Password: JULIE.T.SMITH

For returning students who already have a CSB/SJU network account (including St. John’s prep-school students as well), use your current network ID and password.

Click "CHEM125 Placement Exam," read instructions
Click "Attempt Quiz Now" to begin the exam.
When finished, click "Submit All And Finish."

Rules for Taking the Test

The exam is untimed. Most will complete the exam in 30-60 minutes.
The use of scratch paper and a calculator are allowed. The calculator does not need to have graphing or any other special capabilities.
This is a closed book test, to be taken on the honor system. Placement into the proper chemistry sequence is designed to benefit you! You should not consult with any other sources (texts, websites, etc.) or individuals during the exam. Obtaining an artificially high score on this exam and then struggling in CHEM 125 will not serve you in the long run.
