We conducted an intensive survey of Olmsted county, located in southeastern Minnesota, in 1994. The major population center in Olmsted county is the city of Rochester, a well-known medical center. The Olmsted County Health Department (OCHD) has surveyed over 600 homes for radon using EPERMS with an EPA-style screening protocol. We were able to determine the location (latitude and longitude) for 450 of these homes. In an earlier study, we (Lively and Steck 1991) measured approximately 50 additional houses in two Rochester neighborhoods with year long ATDs. These data have been combined to form the OCHD results. The OCHD data served as the basis for a contour map generated using a Kriging algorithm with a grid scale of 0.3 km.
