Garbage

• According to the DHHS in 1998, “Each American produces almost 4.5lbs. of solid waste per day.” (Smith p. 707)

• Garbage production is rising by 5% per year. (Taylor, 1999)

• Healthy People 2010 objective: decrease garbage production to the 1990 level of 4.3lbs per day. (Smith, 2010)
