Retinol Binding Protein

I. Introduction
This protein contains almost exclusively
antiparallel beta structure. These types of proteins contains 4-10
twisted antiparallel beta strands in a ways in which two twisted
beta sheets are formed which pack against each other in a barrel
-like structure. This protein represents an up and down beta
barrel (8 strands). The beta strands are connected by hairpins.
RBP has 182 amino acids and binds and transports retinol (vitamin A)
from the liver to other tissues. The ligand is bound inside the
barrel in a site provided by the twisted beta strands.
